Black Friday Madness

Black Friday is the craziest time of the year for avid shoppers. The event takes place on the fourth Friday of November every year. If you want to stand in long lines and get insanely unbelievable deals at two in the morning, Black Friday is for you.

WalletHub says that Macy’s has the best deals and is the busiest store every year. Some people love the adrenaline of Black Friday, while other people prefer their sleep instead of shopping, any day.
Kailey Willard, a Sedro-Woolley High School senior, said, “I have never participated in Black Friday shopping. I am not willing to get up super early and fight the ridiculous crowds.”

Emily Welcome, a SWHS junior feels relatively the same way. “I don’t personally participate in Black Friday because I never have a ride, but if I participated, I know I would buy a lot of things that I do not need and things others do not need. I would end up wasting money even if it was a good deal.”

Black Friday is the beginning of Christmas shopping, when people do 10-15% of their shopping,” according to Decode Science.

The history of Black Friday started much earlier than people think. On Friday September 24, 1869, the United States gold market began to crash creating a crisis for the stock market. The term “Black Friday” stands for businesses getting out of the “red zone” and getting into the”black zone” which means they have started to make profit for the year.

“I think that the economy is super consumer based, and Black Friday helps boost the economy, which is super important,” said Welcome.

Mariah Oudman, a SWHS senior enjoys Black Friday shopping.

“I like to go to Black Friday because things are cheap. I really like to shop for clothes at Kohl’s; “they seem to have some of the best deals.”

She also said,“I really enjoy Black Friday shopping because it is so intense.”

Everyone seems to have a different opinion on Black Friday. They either find it undoubtedly amusing and lively or they have a gleaming passion for staying out of the crowds and sitting on their couch in the comfort of their own home.
