Over-Expectant Underclassmen?
As the new school year begins, freshmen move into the hallways of Sedro-Woolley High School. With each new student comes high hopes and big expectations of what their first year is going to be like. Some expectations are met–while others are let down and disappointed.
“I thought the first week would be stressful with all the upperclassmen and a whole new schedule,” said Stacy Griffith, freshman at Sedro-Woolley High School.
Moving up from middle school to high school is a big step. With that, there are big expectations for what the first week, and year will be.
Freshman, Ryan Garcia, said, “My expectations for Sedro-Woolley would have to be that the teachers telling their students everything they need to know, in order to do well.”
Each student has different expectations for what the high school is going to be like and if it doesn’t go as well as the think it will, then it could be a let down.
For one new high school student, the first week was almost to her expectations,
Griffith said, “Yeah it did meet my expectations, but also kinda no.”
High school as seen on TV is fun, drama filled, and most of the time, enjoyable. High school in real life is a bit more stressful and time consuming. “It was a little bit more relaxed than I thought it was going to be,” said Garcia.
“I don’t think anything should be different because I’m only two weeks into the school year.” Griffith said, “I wish I had more friends at lunch.”
After you get into the groove of entering high school, many freshman outlooks can change throughout the year. The goal for all students, is to stay positive and have a healthy image of yourself and your school year.
Each students hopes that the school year does well and keeping high hopes is important
“My hopes for the rest of the school year is that, this school year would be great, because I have great teachers, great classes, and every staff member is nice, polite, and kind to the students at Sedro-Woolley High School,” said Garcia.
Overall the freshman have a positive vibe and outlook on this year.
New freshmen bring opportunity for sports teams, diversity, and bigger and better opportunities for the whole school in general.
