Wednesday: A Review
For the people out there who love director Tim Burton, he recently released his newest show, “Wednesday.” This show was produced by Netflix, and has been available for the public since Thanksgiving of 2022. Although it was based on the 1991 original film “The Addams Family,” “Wednesday” is more purely focused on Wednesday Adams.
Tim Burton; is a very interesting screenwriter and director; his films are very different in the sense that they are very dark. His popular films include, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Edward Scissorhands,” and even cartoon movies like “Coraline” and “Corpse Bride.” All of these films include an alternate reality, and contain unsolved riddles and easter eggs.
“Wednesday,” like his other films, takes on an alternate reality. It starts with Wednesday Adams going into a new school, and ends with murder, lies, and mysterious monsters.
If you like fantasy movies including werewolves and vampires, this would be a great show for you. It ranks number three in Netflix list in most watched shows of all time, passing up the last trending show, “Dahmer.” Wednesday’s popularity is also branching out to other platforms like TikTok. Although there are lots of edits and “ships” that are floating around the Internet, the one that sticks out the most is a new TikTok dance based off Episode 4. This dance was made up by Jenna Ortega to the song “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps, although the song used on TikTok is “Bloody Mary” by Lady Gaga.
Jenna Ortega, former Disney Channel star and horror movie actor, has gained many fans from her performance as Wednesday Adam. Wednesday had many traits in this show, one of which was to stare rather than blink while cameras were on her. Despite that, Jenna got into character, and made the best of it.
“People should watch it because it’s a mystery, suspenseful and it always keeps you on your toes,” says sophomore Rylee Bentley. “I also found out that it teaches people to never judge a book by its cover. I say this because you would never think Wednesday would be so adventurous and smart.”
