For many years, people have been bass fishing for the thrill and bragging rights of catching the “slaunch donkey,” –  A big bass, as defined by senior Cody Hamilton. From tournaments, to challenging your friends, bass fishing is voted to most popular type of game fishing, according to bass Master, a professional tournament bass fishing program.

“There is not a better feeling than a bass biting your lure, and setting the hook,” says senior Carter Trammell.

When asked what his favorite lure was,  Hamilton said his favorite is a Blue Fox Vibrax spinner lure for silver fishing, but for bass fishing a, “wacky rig senko seems to get me the bass.”

A senko is a rubber worm that is made of plastic. It has crazy movement in the water. It shimmies down when jigging it and the bass love it!

Seniors Jameson Kolbeck and Carter Trammell agreed that their  favorites are senkos. Trammell also enjoys using moving baits like spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Those baits resemble other bait fish, which is what the bass eat.

In Bass fishing, for many years in my life, the senko has been the best lure for me, and produced the most bass out of any lure I have ever used. But they don’t usually catch quality over quantity. It’s most of the time a large amount of fish. Every person I interviewed said that a senko works great.

Bass fishing is not cheap. Two out of three people surveyed spend anywhere from one hundred to three hundred dollars a year on bass fishing equipment. Hamilton says that he spends around, “One hundred fifty dollars a year.”

“It’s truly an expensive sport, but a lot of fun, and can be rewarding when you reel in the, “slaunch donkey.” says Hamilton

A lot of people don’t realize how much fun the sport fishing can be. But that is only because they have never fished. But there is a pro to that- less fisherman, more fish!

Bass are one of the most aggressive freshwater fish. People love fishing for them for that reason. Trammell says, “Bass are my favorite fish to fish for because they fight hard and there’s a lot of different ways you can fish for them. “

Bass fishing never gets boring. You are constantly casting and reeling. If it is the right time of the year, like mid to late spring, all of summer, and early fall you will consistently catch bass.

Bass can range for one ounce, to over ten pounds. You never know if that biggen is biting your lure on the end of your line. That is what is what bass fishermen hunt for, and that is the beauty of bass fishing.
