Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world. It takes serious endurance, competitiveness and most importantly, team spirit.

“This is my second year playing for the Sedro-Woolley girls basketball program,” says Jess Eldrige, who plays Post for JV girls basketball at Sedro-Woolley.

“I’ve really loved being able to make friends with my team and have an amazing bond with them and be able to learn and help each other.”

Basketball is a sport not only won by strategy, but also by working together. If you have a strong connection with your team, you’re bound to do and perform better on the court.

“7th grade I played JV basketball. I was the starting post. We went the whole season undefeated. Now this is my first year of high school basketball,” says Cassidy Costanti, who also plays post for JV girls basketball at Sedro-Woolley High School. “I enjoy playing for our school because we become an actual team, we don’t hate each other or bring each other down.”

A team that knows how to keep each other motivated when needed and keeps each other strong, is a team that will be successful on the court.

“I feel pretty good about my performance. There’s definitely things I could have done better on in the moment which I need to work on,” Eldrige continues. “I think as a team our performance has been alright, there’s things we need to work on as a team and get better at still but that will come.”

Even with a losing record, the team is still improving and striving to become a better team and program.

“The beginning of the season was hard, but I think we’re improving,” says Costanti. “I personally started the season after not playing for two years because of COVID and my coaches have all helped me improve. We may not be the best basketball team in the state but we try our hardest and we wear the Sedro-Woolley jerseys with pride. Our performance is getting better every week and I can’t wait to see what the coaches have for us all next season.”
