After March 14 there will be a new ASB crew. Our very own senior ASB president Landon Steele wants to share his experience with his involvement in ASB.
Imagine being involved in ASB for your whole high school experience. It takes a lot of determination, and dedication.
“Being involved in ASB was great because it was the final year and trial of what we’ve been working towards over the past four years,” said Steel. “I feel like we finally made progress as a team, and events have gone more smoothly than they have in previous years.”
Steele agrees he has done a lot of work as the president, but it was also a team effort. Everyone working together is important.
“I’m grateful to lead the charge in our ASB but the efforts are definitely spread throughout our team: We could not do what we do without the involvement and work of everyone on ASB,” said Steele.
Katie Kins, who was the Junior class president, agrees that working together is important too. Even in the small things.
“I think ASB is like a lot of working together and a lot of the small things we do,” said Kins. “They don’t really feel as impactful as they are, but when we work together it is a lot more impactful. So just participating in assemblies, and building culture for the school.”
While she’s not running for senior class president, she will be running for a different position instead.
“I am gonna be running for an executive council position instead,” said Kins.
Rylee Cates, an incoming junior agrees, when you become part of the ASB community you are part of a big school family. Being part of ASB is so much more than just the title.

“Your respect for others, because I mean you’re basically the leaders of the school so I would say that if you’re mean to other people or judging them for who they are or something they can’t change or making fun of their looks, you can’t change that, they can’t change that,” said Cates. “I would say you need to be respectful, because you never know what they’re going through”
When you’re a leader, your job is to help change things for the better of the community. It’s your duty to make sure you are including everyone in activities as well.
“As president this year I think I have really been focused on improving the involvement of our team. I feel I have done a good job of recognizing the strengths in our team and encouraging those individuals to utilize those strengths in the things that we do,” said Steele.
Steele does so much more than just being the president. He does a little bit of everything.
“I have used my strengths in videography towards the benefit of the school more this year than I have in the past: Being a lead on this year’s Cub Morning Show, and making videos to promote our athletics here at the school. I am doing my best to plan some fun things before I leave this June!” said Steele.
When you’re younger you don’t realize that doing new things is good. Cates thinks trying new things even if it’s scary is good too.
“I took a jump, in 8th grade I would journal every night. I was reading back on it a little bit, and reading about how nervous I was, But I guess you can just try and the worst that’s gonna happen is that you fail, but that’s not even that bad, you’ll get over it right. I guess it just sounded fun, interesting,” said Cates.
When we impact our community it can be in many different ways. Especially if you love what you’re doing.
“I love it, for the speech that I wrote is just saying how much I love it, because this has been such a big chapter in my life. Even since elementary school I was shy, I didn’t know how to talk to anybody, I would cry when I would go in front of people. Now I’m saying speeches so it’s like,” said Cates. I’m happy I really love my job. Getting to know people is so much fun too,” said Cates.
Our new crew for next year is, Isaac Oporto as Pres, Atlas Farnsworth as VP, Rylee Cates as Treasurer, Cady Natoli as Sec, Kylie Ekstein as Activities Coordinator, Maddie Johnson as Community Relations, Rebeka Manzo as Cultural Ambassador, Delilah Gulick as Remote Student Advocate.

The new class presidents are, Kaleah Westergard as SR Class Pres, Madison Davis as SR Class VP, Rolan McBride as JR Class Pres, Chloe Farrell as JR Class VP, Joslyn Chace as Freshman Class Pres, Penina Librado Rodriguez as Freshman Class VP.
