Sedro-Woolley Cubs Football prepares to make a comeback and continue their streak.
Last year the Cubs fell to the Bulldogs on a rainy Friday night, an upset that surprised every student. This year the varsity football team won against their rivals, the intensity adding to the cold night.
The Cubs were on a roll with 6-0 before the homecoming game against the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs we’re 5-1 before the homecoming game after only falling to the Tigers on September 19 at the battle of the bridge. The Cubs had a plan to stay unstoppable and keep their spot as first in the conference.
“Our teamwork and us being a real team unlike last year, and just the way we play, I feel like we can out-dog anyone on the field and we’re gonna stay level headed,” said Braiden Barcolows, a senior on the team. He believes that level-headiness will get them the win.
Nonetheless, the Cubs are confident but still are keeping an eye out for key players.
“I am a little nervous,” said Santiago Salas before the homecoming game. He was nervous but is also confident that they will take the win which paid off, as the toke the win.
On October 17, they carried on their streak, leaving the team undefeated after beating the Bulldogs.
The Cubs were able to defeat the Bulldogs after a hard fought battle. Mount Vernon is now 6-2. Sedro-Woolley was able to beat them 32-27 in a game that kept everyone on their toes until the last minute.
The game wouldn’t have been such an intense watch if it wasn’t for Ethan “Stew” Dejong’s game changing interception. He was able to stop the dogs from getting past.
“We didn’t hesitate,” said Drew Aungst, a varsity coach at Sedro-Woolley High School. “We stayed gritty. Stayed disciplined, and trusted the process. Next play, boom. Game over. Cubs win. Another cool moment was our 18 play drive that took over 10 minutes off of the clock. Complete and utter dominance from our offensive line. We controlled the line scrimmage and enforced our will. It made the difference in the end.”
Tonight we play the undefeated Mountlake Terrance Hawks for the district championship, to be crowned Wesco District 1 Champs.
