At Sedro-Woolley high school there is a program called Winter Wishes that makes sure everyone gets a gift. Anyone from the community can join and help. You can adopt a family or just simply give back one thing like lotion, socks, toiletries, and etc.
“We helped one family out for several years while their kids were here at school,” said Kelly Hawkins, a teacher and organizer of Winter wishes. “Last year one of those kids reached out and asked to adopt a family making the cycle go full circle. It has been the most rewarding moment over the years for me. It’s also pretty incredible to realize that we are the reason some kids have a Christmas.”Giving in small ways can really impact someone’s lives especially during the holiday season.
Isaac Oporto, the ASB president at Sedro-Woolley High School, said they raised about $6000 from monetary donations.
Winter Wishes shows us how a community can come together and create holiday spirit. Showing us how coming together as a community can have a lasting difference during the holiday season.
