The 2026 Lip Dub took place on May 8, a schoolwide annual event in which the whole school participated.
Kelly Hawkins a business education teacher, and ASB advisor loves being involved in the lip dub.
“The thing I love about being involved in it is the fact that it includes everyone at the school,” said Hawkins.
Isaac Oporto, a senior at Sedro-Woolley High School, ASB president, and Lip Dub organizer agrees.
“My personal favorite thing about the lip dub is the involvement,” says Oporto.“The involvement and the community that we create while filming this. Not only that, we’re just a bunch of high school students just filming a lip dub video. We’re all basically working together, making this cool thing that everyone gets to be represented in, not just the students, but also our faculty, our community. It involves everybody.”
Oporto first gathered his lip dub committee then they began brainstorming songs and prop ideas. After spring break they started signups for the lip dub and matched what songs should go to what part of the school.
“I created this big book called the Lip Dub project book, and it’s like 21 pages long,” said Oporto.
The book outlines the whole planning, setting up and process. It also allows for people to sign up for specific jobs.
Hawkins talks about how amazing Isaac is and how much hard work he put into planning this year’s lip dub
“Isaac is amazing,” said Hawkins. “Isaac has created a whole pamphlet full of details to run the lip dub.” Details like song choices, getting permissions, running through the map, voting for songs, choreography, making sure he gets the best people to do all of these different jobs. “He does an amazing job of organizing other students and putting all the details together. He is a great manager.”
Some of this year’s songs include songs such as “Head over Boots” by John Pardi, “Man I Need” by Olivia Dean, “Where’s my Husband” by Raye, and many more.
In the hallways of Sedro-Woolley High school people were antsy and excited as the camera passed filming.
Isaac Oporto talks about the successes of this year’s Lip Dub.
“ I think everyone was so involved, especially with LIA, and all of our clubs. LIA did such a great job of just decorating” said Oporto.
Chloe Farrell , a junior, class vice president, and triple threat athlete agrees.
“ I think we had a lot more people participate this year, and I think because of the amount of songs that we had and everything, it made it more environmentally friendly for other people,” said Farrell.
Oporto talks about his favorite song being Opalite. He explains as to why he chose that song as his favorite.
“We just had great visions for the song. It turned out exactly as I had hoped” said Oporto.
Rylee Cates, a junior, and ASB treasurer agrees.
“I also really liked Opalite, because I think we brought a lot of energy, and I know that’s a little biased because we were in it, but I think it was really, really happy and great” said Cates.
Isaac talks about his key take-aways from his last ever Lib Dub.
“It’s going to help me become a better multitasker, because with the lip dub I also had a bunch of other things going on to manage,” said Oporto.
Chloe Farrell also adds in her take away from this year’s lip dub.
“I think it shows how connected our school is and how we impact each other,” said Farrell.
