It seems like every senior’s dream is to finally walk into prom with their flashy dresses and fancy suits, for a night built just for them, before they head off to graduation. How is that built, and who plans this?
This year’s prom will be held on May 30, 2026, at Vanity Farms, the theme is Starry Night also known as Senior Starlight, tickets are going for $25-30, and the Sedro-Woolley Senior Parent Group has been in the process of planning all year.
“So the ASB and the senior parents work together on prom. Usually, one of the senior parents is like, the committee in person that’s in charge. They’re the coordinator,” said Kelly Hawkins, the ASB advisor and business education teacher at Sedro-Woolley High School.
The Senior Parent Group works hard to make sure that their kids have a great time, so they find a venue, donate money, decorate, and provide snacks for them
“This year they got the venue donated, which is really cool, and that’s why I ask parents because they might know someone or have a venue option. So we pay for a little bit of the things, and they pay for some of the things because ideally, we would do a minimum of decorations where the senior parents want the kids to have the best time ever. So they put more into it,” said Hawkins.
Typically we have a $2000 budget for the venue, but getting a venue donated this year really helps out because it leaves more money, and normally it’s hard to find a venue, especially with wedding season coming up, along with prom, which can interfere with planning and decorating.
“Sometimes they’ll give us, like the day before and we could start on Friday night, go in there and decorate. Other times we don’t have that option. And so the parents will go on Saturday morning. Hopefully a lot of parents will volunteer to do that ” said Hawkins.
Overall, prom is a fun experience for everyone, the seniors aren’t the only ones having fun.
“Kids look so pretty, and it’s fun to be there. Yeah, its like the cherry on top of my year,” said Hawkins.
